Monte Carlo

Micranthemum tweediei 'Monte Carlo'

Micranthemum 'Monte Carlo' is the perfect, accessible alternative to HC Cuba for creating a compact lawn. It has slightly larger leaves but boasts vastly superior adaptability. It can form a carpet (more slowly) even in tanks with medium light and no CO2. It has stronger roots, reducing the risk of uprooting. It is also ideal as a cascading plant over rocks or wood, creating beautiful green "waterfalls".

Description

Sowing in the Mud and the Exhausting Wait (The Relentless Dry Start Futile Deaf Mute):

Planting Monte Carlo in an aquarium already full of water is a frustrating nightmare: the fish (or worse, the snails) will constantly unearth it. The winning method is the Dry Start. Place the micro-tufts on soaked soil, seal the tank with cling film for a month, spraying water every day. The plant will form unassailable roots. When you fill the tank, you will have already won.

Care and observations

The Deceptive Safety and the Fatal Shadow (The Silent Blind Mute Rot Under the Lawn):

Although Monte Carlo is much easier than Cuba, it is not immune to the law of gravity. If you let the cushion grow 5-6 cm thick (becoming beautiful and fluffy in appearance), you are arming a bomb. Beneath the green surface, total darkness will be melting the original stems. One day the fish will bump into the lawn and a piece the size of a dinner plate will detach ruinously. Prune BEFORE it seems necessary.
