Dwarf Hairgrass
Eleocharis parvula
Eleocharis parvula (Dwarf Hairgrass) is the plant of choice for recreating a perfect submerged English lawn, thanks to its very fine, needle-like leaves. It reproduces rapidly via a dense network of underground runners. While not as extreme as HC Cuba, it requires medium-high lighting and CO2 to expand horizontally in a compact manner; otherwise, it will tend to elongate and thin out. Its mortal enemy are filamentous algae, impossible to untangle from its fine threads.

Description
The Separation and the Deep Transplant (The Architecture of the Futile Deaf Mute Lawn):
The beginner's mistake is to buy the pot of Eleocharis and plant it whole or in large clumps. In this way it will rot from the center due to asphyxia and detach. Arm yourself with holy patience, divide the pot into 30-40 tiny tufts and plant them one by one, 2-3 cm apart. THE SECRET: push them deeply into the substrate with tweezers, leaving only 1 cm of green thread protruding. This will firmly anchor the plant, which in a few days will begin to throw lateral runners, closing the lawn in a month.
Care and observations
The Filamentous Terror and the Condemnation of Uprooting (The Futile Blind Deaf Mute Weed):
Given the needle-like conformation of Dwarf Hairgrass, green filamentous algae (and cyanobacteria) will find it the perfect substrate to anchor themselves. If fertilization escapes your control and these algae wrap around the lawn, removing them mechanically with tweezers is USELESS. By pulling the algae, you will uproot the entire carpet of Eleocharis, bringing the muddy soil to the surface and devastating the aquarium. The only salvation is to cut the entire infested lawn down to zero, hoping that the underground rhizomes will restart healthy.
