Thai Micro Crab (Spider Crab)

Limnopilos naiyanetri

The Invisible Nano-Spider (0.4 inches / 1 cm!). The Thai Micro Crab is one of the rarest, most fragile, and insanely tiny freshwater invertebrates you can legally buy in the hobby. While almost all pet store crabs (Fiddler Crabs, Vampire Crabs) are actually semi-terrestrial and will drown if kept completely underwater, the Thai Micro Crab is the ONLY true, 100% fully aquatic crab. It is no larger than the fingernail of your pinky finger. Covered in tiny hairs, it looks exactly like a grayish, underwater spider lurking in the moss.

Care and observations

Tank Setup and The Ghost Effect:

The Disappearing Act. The biggest mistake beginners make is buying five of these expensive crabs and dropping them into a standard 20-gallon planted tank. THE FRUSTRATING TRUTH: Because they are less than half an inch wide and perfectly camouflaged, you will literally NEVER see them again. They are painfully shy and spend 99% of their lives clinging upside-down inside the dark, dense roots of floating plants (Water Lettuce) or buried deep inside Christmas Moss. You MUST keep them in tiny 2-to-5 gallon Nano-Tanks heavily dedicated to them if you actually want to observe them.

Feeding and Starvation (The Dust Diet):

The Micro-Scavenger. They do not have large claws. They cannot cut up chunks of fish food, bloodworms, or zucchini. Their entire existence relies on using the tiny, sensitive hairs on their legs to catch and filter microscopic dust, biofilm, and rotifers floating in the water or trapped in the moss. You are REQUIRED to feed them specialized ultra-fine shrimp baby powder (BacterAE, spirulina powder) or they will slowly, invisibly starve to death in a clean tank.

Compatibility (The Walking Snack Danger):

The Bottom of the Food Chain. You absolutely CANNOT keep them with any fish whatsoever. Even the smallest, most peaceful Nano-Fish (Chili Rasboras, Neon Tetras, Guppies) or even standard Red Cherry Shrimp will look at these tiny, defenseless micro-crabs as delicious, crunchy live snacks. They will be hunted, their spider-legs ruthlessly ripped off, and eaten alive. Strictly 'Species-Only' or kept with tiny, peaceful snails.

Calcium and minerals
Necessaria per la muta, ma odia acque eccessivamente dure o alcaline.
Molting
Essendo l'animale letteralmente grande un centimetro, i gusci di muta sono invisibili e vengono mangiati o dissolti.
Reproduction
Rarissima in cattività.
