Crystal Black Shrimp (CBS)

Caridina cantonensis var. Black

The *Caridina cantonensis var. Black* (CBS) is the genetic progenitor of the Crystal line, from which the Red mutation was derived. Identical in needs and fragility, it boasts bands of deep ink black and blinding snow white. Extremely elegant on dark substrates, it requires the same extreme conditions: RO water, specific GH+ salts, active soil (KH 0), and temperatures below 24°C. It must not be mixed with fish and is very intolerant of organic pollution.

Family
Atyidae
Origin
La forma capostipite mutata dalla Bee Shrimp selvatica. Da questa linea nera è poi scaturita, per un'ulteriore mutazione recessiva, la più famosa Crystal Red (CRS).

Description

The Crystalline Purity of the Asphyxiating Air (The Denied Oxygen of the Futile Blind Filter):

*Caridina cantonensis* requires frighteningly high oxygen levels. A normal internal or hang-on-back filter IS NOT ENOUGH. Professionals exclusively use large SPONGE FILTERS driven by an air pump. This system performs three vital tasks: 1) It creates massive surface turbulence that injects oxygen (crucial at acidic pH), 2) It provides an endless pasture of biofilm for the babies to graze on, 3) It physically prevents the newborns from being sucked in and shredded by a mechanical impeller.

Care and observations

The Ticking Time Bomb of Exhausted Soil (The Silent Mute Futile Blind Ammonia):

In a Caridina tank, the active soil is THE HEART of the system. It absorbs KH and keeps the pH acidic (below 7). Thanks to this, deadly ammonia is converted into the less toxic ammonium. BUT BEWARE: after 12-18 months, the soil EXHAUSTS ITSELF. No longer able to buffer the acidity, the pH rises. In A FEW HOURS, all the accumulated ammonium instantly transforms into highly toxic ammonia, causing a TOTAL EXTERMINATION of the colony. Be prepared to replace the soil every year and a half.

Estrema (Rigoroso protocollo di gocciolamento per acclimatazione e cambi)
Calcium and minerals
Medio-Alto (Dipendente dai sali GH+ mirati)
Molting
Come le CRS, un TDS troppo alto causa la morte nel tentativo di sgusciare.
Reproduction
Molto sensibili ai rumori o alle vibrazioni; le femmine stressate abbandonano le uova prima della schiusa. I piccoli crescono lentamente.
Compatibility
Zero tolleranza ai predatori. La vasca deve essere dedicata esclusivamente a loro. I maschi nuotano freneticamente (danza nuziale) dopo la muta di una femmina fertile.
