Porcupine Pufferfish

Diodon holocanthus

The Spiky Water Dog (20 inches / 50 cm). Incredibly intelligent, they will beg for food and spit water at you. They inflate into a massive spiked ball when threatened.

Care and observations

The Air Death (Never Net Them): If you lift them out of the water with a net, they will inflate with AIR instead of water. They cannot burp the air out, will float upside down, and die. Always catch them using a solid bucket underwater.

Tooth Trimming: Their beak never stops growing. You must feed them hard clams and crabs in the shell to file their teeth down.
